DaDaABC Requirements for Teachers
For legal reasons and to ensure the best quality experience for their students, DaDaABC require their teachers meet the following requirements...
DaDaABC can only give online teaching jobs to people who have passports from The United States, Canada, The United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa.
To teach English online for DaDa, you must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher. You do not require an English teaching certificate like a TEFL, TESOL or CELTA but having one will help you to get a better base rate.
Just like with an English teaching certificate, it is not required but having some will probably help get you a better base rate offer and give you more power to negotiate higher if you want to.
You will need a computer to teach for DaDaABC, you can not use your phone or tablet. A laptop or desktop will do the job alongside a webcam and a proper over-ear headset with microphone, preferably USB and with noise cancellation. Though a basic headset will get the job done, just as long as it’s over-ear and has a microphone.
As you will be streaming video and audio between you and your student, a stable internet connection is important. A wired connection straight in to your computer is preferred to help achieve this.
DaDa Online Teaching App or Google Chrome
Ideally, you should always use the DaDa English teaching app, which you can download from the DaDa ABC website. But if you are having issues with this then you can open up Google Chrome, click through to DaDaABC, login and teach away.
Though you are allowed to work from anywhere in the world as long as you have a decent internet connection, there are a few other things that are important. Obviously, your teaching area should be quiet from distractions so that your student can hear you clearly. It should also be well lit so that you are clearly visible.
You must also have an interesting background, with most people using posters, stickers and white boards to achieve a classroom like visual experience for the student. This must include the DaDa logo somewhere. If you are unable to hang things on your wall then you can achieve the same effect using webcam software on your computer like ManyCam. You are also expected to use props when teaching. This can also be achieved using software like ManyCam if you are on the road and traveling light.
A Blue DaDaABC Shirt
While working for DaDaABC, it is required that you wear a blue top that matches their branding colors. Saying this, it doesn’t have to have the logo on so you can just pop out and buy a cheap blue polo shirt and that will do.
Available DaDa ABC Hours
As a DaDaABC teacher, you can pick your own teaching hours between 8am and 9pm Beijing Time.
DaDaABC Minimum Hour Requirements
DaDa require that you work at least 10 hours a month, which is very low in this industry! You will pick these after you have passed the demo class, when you are in the process of signing a contract. You can also change these later with a bit of notice.
As well as working your contract hours, you can also teach extra shifts by applying for them a few days in advance using what they call the ‘Part-Time’ function or PT for short. Alternatively, you can use their new ‘Teach Now’ function which allows you to make yourself available instantly to students. You obviously will get less classes using ‘Teach Now’ as opposed to making yourself available with ‘Part Time’ because parents won’t be able to book you in advance. On the other hand, you gain the extra flexibility. It’s nice to just be able to log in when you have a spare moment and make a bit of extra money.
Time off can be taken without penalty as long as you give 24 hours advance notice for short term leave and at least 15 days for longer things like holidays. This can all be done within the app or on the DaDa ABC website.
DaDaABC Application Process
Before you can begin working for DaDa, you must apply and go through several stages...
Apply to DaDaABC
Obviously the first thing you have to do is sign up by visiting the DaDaABC apply page and filling in some basic details. After this, expect all the standard application form information alongside uploading your resume, a picture and an introduction video.
After your application has been reviewed and if you are deemed to fit all of DaDaABC’s requirements, you will be asked to do an interview with them. As well as the usual questions, you will be provided with some mock class slides in advance which you will be expected to demonstrate your teaching style with. Already wearing a blue DaDa shirt, having a good environment and making sure your equipment and connection are up to scratch will help a lot here.
To ensure that teachers are able to deliver a quality service to the students, you will have to undergo a systems check with the IT department. They will make sure that your computer is powerful enough to run the classes using either the app or Google Chrome.
Because they will be judging video and audio quality, make sure that you have your proper headset and lighting setup for this. You will also have to undergo an internet speed test where they will check to make sure it is fast and reliable enough to teach on, so turn off all your downloads and make sure no one in the house is streaming video or downloading stuff while this is happening!
If you have passed the interview then you will receive training on how to use the DaDa online English teaching app as well as a few other things.
DaDaABC Demo Class
The final stage before you are offered an online teaching job with them, you must perform a real DaDa ABC demo class to a real potential student. This is done using the DaDaABC software and you will be teaching a 14 minute trial class to an actual student. Make sure you are prepared! You will be judged on things like your use of language, student engagement, error correction and how well you check their understanding.
As long as you didn’t totally bomb the mock class, you will be given an offer to teach English online for DaDaABC. They will provide you with a contract which will really only vary in basic rate and length, both of which you can negotiate. The minimum contract length is 6 months but renewals are common and you can request a 1 year if you want.
DaDaABC Class & Lesson Types
All DaDa classes are one-on-one so that you don’t have to worry about juggling multiple students and can focus all your efforts on one student at a time. There are a few different class types that they have though including…
Formal lessons are 30 minute DaDa classes that are part of a set curriculum they have chosen and are normally taught by the same teacher throughout the course.
Interest classes are extra classes that the student has chosen based on their own interests. Unlike formal lessons, interest classes can be once off lessons, less likely to be taught by a regular teacher at a regular time and don’t require homework assigned in the assessments.
A DaDaABC trial class can be 14 or 30 minutes long and is named so because they are taken by potential students who are trying out the platform before their parents sign them up for a package. Perform well enough to get the parents to sign their child up and you will receive a $7 bonus.
DaDa provides all the lesson material for you on their custom built platform so you don’t have to do any prep work before the lesson, just log in, check in and be ready. As well as their own, in house produced materials, they have also teamed up with several prestigious curriculum providers like Oxford University, Nat Geo Learning, Pearson Education, McGraw-Hill and more. Easy.
